I blog; therefore, I am.
Ally Descartes

I had occasion last week to look for something in my blog.  In searching for it, I re-read my blog going back a few months.  I have to say, I was impressed!

I can't believe how much I've written, much of it substantive.  I've taken and shared photos of my life; I've conveyed my view of the world; I've described events I participated in; and I talked about the fascinating aspects of our lives.

Someone uttered surprise when I said recently that, after a long day of work, I relax by going into my closet, building an outfit, applying makeup, slipping on heels and lounging in front of the television.  I'll concede that most people don't do that -- but I ain't most people.  That activity, to me, is pure pleasure.

I'm like the man who gets up at 4 a.m. to go fishing.  He resents putting effort into his job, but he'll put even more effort into his hobby and is thrilled to do so.

Blogging has become part of the fabric of my life.  It isn't "work," it's play.  Reading your blogs and coming up with new stuff here isn't hard; at times, I can't stop myself!

I see that I'm averaging 25 posts a month, which is almost one a day.  That would be a draining pace if this were work, but it isn't.  I don't impose any arbitrary deadlines on my blog; I simply write when I have something to say and keep quiet when I don't.

I can't help but notice my number of followers -- 99 -- which hasn't changed in days and days.  I hope someone will put me out of my misery soon and flip that over to a hundred.  Even if you have to create a fictitious identity, end the suspense.  Please!

Just kidding.  :)

  1. Congrats, Ally! Your blog is wonderful. It has been such a pleasure to follow. I have become very much the same when it comes to blogging. I see it as fun, and use it as a tool when I feel I have something worthy to communicate. I may not post as much, or have nearly as many followers as I used to, but I know I am using this wonderful tool for good, and prioritizing it appropriately in my life. I believe in quality over quantity, but if you can master both, as you have here, than that's great for us readers!

  2. It is a wonderful feeling isn't it? It is like building something from scratch and see it grow on daily basis. I hope your 100th reader turns up ALREADY!!! :) Have a great week ahead.

  3. Ally, you are s must read each day I'm at my computer. Its a joy to participate in some small why on your journey to find happiness. As far as followers, I'm not even sure I have any. That is one aspect of blogging that I have no clue about. If you tell me how to do it, I'd be honored.

  4. Congrats! It's always fun to look back and see how we've grown. I think it's fantastic that blogging brings you joy - anytime it feels like a chore to me, I know that I'm doing something wrong.

  6. I'm so glad I followed your blog. I found it awhile back via Sal or Audi (I forget which), but didn't think to bookmark. I love your blog because I can see the joy you get from blogging. Some bloggers get burnt out trying to post 30 times a month, but you can always tell the blogs that are inspired.

I used to costume for fun. I'd dress up in whatever I felt like that day, apply (costume) make up and sit around with cat ears or in full kimono get up. I miss doing that because it was creative. I'm trying to pull those same inspirations into daily wear.

  8. hehe how philosophical of you! btw, I'm loving your oh-so-ladylike pose! Have you seen "A League of their Own?" Reminds me of the manner classes the baseball players had to take!

  9. I love that you enjoy blogging so much! I love blogging too, but sometimes I hate it in equal measure (perhaps because I don't have a career yet and feel I should be focussing on these things more than my blog... but I hope my blog will at least lead me to some freelancing)!

  10. Long overdue -- I'm your 100th follower. You have a wonderful blog and it is so inspiring to see someone so passionate about what they do.

Personally, I'm enjoying blogging a lot more after taking Elsie of A Beautiful Mess' "Blog Love" e-course (as well as her "Dream Job" e-course), which have helped me redefine what's important to me and what I want to focus on. I can't say that I enjoy being photographed for outfit posts, but I'll get there someday!

  13. Blogging is a great way to relieve stress, say what you have to say to get things up and out, and most of all, its a way to share with others what you feel so naturally about yourself and have people accept it.
I know i frequently write in hopes that someone would respond or say something, yet its usually "negative" feedback that i am receiving when I share a story. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I would say blogging gives me an opportunity to show that I am multidimensional person..not just one sided.
Keep up the good work ally, your blog is an inspiration to everyone. Its positive, upbeat, lively and pink!!! Even if going through a sad time, or bad day, the way you express yourself is full of hope and sunshine.
