The Holiday Weekend

I hope you are enjoying time off from work and nice weather.  The break of this holiday is usually fun for family and Summer activities.  Whatcha doin'?

I, unfortunately, had to wrestle with an unpleasant situation.  A close relative is dying and that sucks all the oxygen out of the room.  Death, at any age, is profoundly sad and makes everything else seem trivial.  How can you eat or enjoy anything when someone you know is dying?

To take breaks from the emotional weight of this, I went on some walks.  I saw the things below.

    1. You're right. Fresh air and physical movement help us re-gain perspective. They change our viewpoint.

  4. Lots of love and hugs to you, Ally dear. Death is hard to handle, but I also know your relative wouldn't want you to miss out on enjoying your life as well. Grieving is appropriate, but remembering to come past it is too.

  5. Oh man, sorry about that. Walks seem like a good idea. Hard to get into frivolous fun with that on your mind.

  6. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time!

We also walked after my Mom-in-Law passed away and my hubby felt a lot better afterwards. Thanks for sharing what you saw on your walks.

  7. Death is never a good topic of discussion as we all know it will happen. All you can do is take that break and try to relax until it is all over so you can start the recovery process. Take care and just look after yourself.
    Kind regards

  12. Is that a dog theme letter box? I am very impressed, now I want a cat mailbox. I have seen cow themes in the country but no others. I am so sad to hear about your close relative and I will be thinking of you and your family. It's hard to feel so powerless as to how to help. It sure does make everything else seem trivial.

  17. Aw, I'm very sorry to hear that :( But it sounds like you're handling well by looking on the bright side of life.

Thanks for sharing these little pictures of happy things. I love that bull terrier mail box. It remind me of my boyfriend...he's obsessed with bullies. I'll have to show him this picture. Thanks for making me smile! I hope you feel better, love.

Sending positive vibes your way! <333

  18. Its very difficult when news like this comes around. It is a time to celebrate the life they had, and be with them if possible during their final moments.
Going for the walk-look at the beauty you saw, the life, and how your eye for the little joys of life come alive. Your photography is getting so much better!
Wishing you the best during this time, and hopes the transition for your relative is peaceful...

  23. Death indeed is a constant presence we like to shuffle off to life's back burner. But it's there, and full of nuanced sadness. I'm sorry for your loss. That said, the walk, walks in general are such a grand way to "plug in." and see the world up close and personal. Nothing can give one's heart a better perspective than a good walk. Your eye for detail is so keen- love the images here. Wishing your dear friend a graceful transition and an exit filled with treasured remembrances of feeling loved.

  24. Ally I am sorry to hear this.
Its an odd feeling how the only thing certain to us is death and yet we are never fully in terms with it. Hugs.
