Smooth Stroke

Everything in life is better when you use the right tool. Which explains why I just sprung for a new pool cue.

My existing stick is okay but I wanted something better. Higher quality. So I visited a local billiard store and purchased a new Cuetec Gen-Tek Series cue stick. It's perfectly balanced and smooth as silk. The stick comes apart in the middle and fits into a carrying case which makes it easy to transport on a motorcycle. I roar into town on a thundering machine with a pool-sword strapped across my chest. What a dashing image!

Every pool player needs a catchy name. Like Minnesota Fats. I use "Ally Cat" -- which makes me related to the famous Party Cat prowling Detroit. What's your pool nickname? Make one up; it's fun.

BTW, I've decided to give my prior cue stick away to anyone who will use it. The stick is in excellent condition and comes with a brand-new carrying case. If you play or want to learn, leave a comment or e-mail me (fhu@pipeline.com).

  1. Ah, so you'll be quite the Pool Hustler now! *Winks* Afraid I'd be an easy Mark, I totally suck at Pool so my nickname would probably not be very flattering. *Ha ha* Dawn... The Bohemian

  2. I definitely am not a pool player ... the first and last time I played the white ball bounced over the ball I was wanting to hit and bounced onto the floor!

So I won't even try and think up a name!!!

  4. The room is smokey, the music is blaring, money is out, drinks are flowing, the door blows open to reveal the best pool hustler alongside... ALLY CAT!
    Watch out!!

I wish I played pool. I have fond memories of playing at my aunt's house when I was younger and okayish memories of going to pool halls when I was in my early 20's.

  7. The right tool makes all the difference! Sadly, I don't think a nice pool stick will help my game, ha ha.

    1. You'd be surprised at how many players believe the more they spend on a cue, the better their game will become. Of course that's not true.

  8. Oooh, so sleek, so smooth, so pretty!!!
"I roar into town on a thundering machine with a pool-sword strapped across my chest. What a dashing image!"- utterly brilliant description-I now have Ride of The Valkyries playing in my head as I picture your arrival.
I'm not very good at Pool although I quite like having a go if I am near a table (which is virtually never) so my name might be somethin like "The Young Pretender"!

  9. Congrats on the new pool cue! I haven't played in ages, and I'd love to try again. Bryan keeps suggesting we go and then we either forget or simply don't follow through (not for any good reason). Thanks for the reminder--and I love your pool name/mental image of Ally Cat on a motorcycle yielding a cue :)

  10. You're like a ninja for pool! I love it.

Hmm...I'm not very good at coming up with nicknames for myself. I'll have to get back to you on that ;)

  13. 1. I thought this was a post about eyeliner at first.
    2. I was excited to be proved wrong.
    3. I think my pool hall name would be the same as my roller derby name - Whiskey T. Foxtrot.
