Troy & Cohoes

Over the weekend, Aimee showed me her hometown and neighboring cities.  We went on several long walks through Troy and Cohoes -- at a spirited pace, I must add, which means Aimee walks very fast and I scurried to keep up.  Troy and Cohoes are cities that bustled with thriving industry 100-150 years ago but declined sharply when their industries closed down.  Now, decaying remnants of those prosperous times are evident.

It's possible to find poignant beauty in buildings which were once grand and are now dormant.  See if you can see it in these pictures.

  1. I love old buildings, they have a look of uniqueness, its amazing how they survive for centuries and stood the test of time. Not like new houses that are slapped together and designed to last 15-20 years. I was in the town where Ned Kelly was Hung. The town is amazing and all the history that goes with it.

  5. Wow, those buildings are very cool. I love all of the detail. I would have never guessed the one with the smokestack was some sort of factory. The colors are gorgeous. Sad to see buildings like that just sit and decay, but the upkeep is expensive. Great statue capture, by the way. And the waterfall is very pretty. Looks like you had a very nice visit.

  18. Great photos, Ally! I love old buildings and they are all the more special as there aren't any where I live. I am surrounded by natural beauty but not much man made beauty. In fact man has been pretty good at creating ugliness. Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you are enjoying your visit!
